❤️ This vital mindset shift makes such a difference. 🙋🏻‍♀️ Do you tend to double down when faced with too much? Instead, try doing the exact opposite. When overwhelmed let go of something… or perhaps lots of somethings.
Life. It’s a real thing that often gets in the way of our best intentions. We finally come around to the fact that our cluttered homes 🏠 are contributing to our rising stress levels, 🤷🏻‍♀️ yet we don’t presently have the time ⏰ to sift through it all. If you’re in that boat, there’s a way to move slowly. To make lasting change in our homes at a more doable pace for the season you’re in. Here are 3 tips to help you make decluttering progress no matter the season of life you’re in. 1. Stop buying more stuff. (Like literally right now, stop buying stuff). 2. Just pick one space. (One small but meaningful space that will reap the biggest reward with the least amount of resistance.) 3. Create a decluttering habit. (Spend just 10 minutes decluttering that small space every single day after your first cup of coffee, immediately upon returning home from work, or maybe after getting out of the shower. Follow one simple habit with the habit of decluttering to create a mindset that lasts.) For the full article read: How to Declutter When You’re Short on Time. (Link in profile.) Have you found any strategies to help you keep on clearing the clutter even during busy seasons?
Comparison is one of the major players driving both our overconsumption of stuff, as well as our hyper focus on creating a picture perfect minimalist space. No matter which end of the stuff spectrum you’re on, comparison will come for you. These beautiful words by @sweetmariagoff in Love Lives Here are some of my favorite on the topic. How do you handle comparison? ❤️
We want to believe that one more thing will do it. We hope an oversized gallon water bottles will make us drink 💧more water, a detailed planner 🗓 will make us more productive, a timeshare just might yield the rest 🏝 we’re desperate for and those trendy “minimalist must haves” 🛍 advertised at home stores will lead to a simpler, more satisfying life. However, just as a state of the art home gym won’t magically build muscle 💪 for you, neither will a new closet system finally make your home organized. I tried and failed for years to buy my way into the simple life with more bins, baskets, toy boxes, and plastic tubs to stockpile stuff I didn’t need in the nooks and crannies of my home. However, those items only added to the clutter in my home 🏠 and frustration 🤦🏻‍♀️ in my mind. “Why can’t I just be organized!?!” Simplicity is a mindset not an item. It’s not that we’re lacking the right stuff. It’s that we’ve been going about it all wrong. We can’t solve a too-much-stuff problem with more stuff! For more on simplifying your life through grace-based minimalism rather than more organizational supplies, read: Messy Minimalism. Available on Kindle, audiobook 🎧 and hardcover where books 📚 are sold. #messyminimalism #minimalism #organization #minimalist
🤩 I can’t get enough of these adorable cookies made by my dear friend Stacey, @cookiemomster615 out of Nashville, TN. This dear friend/grammar nerd, 🤓 turned Nurse Practitioner 👩🏻‍⚕️, turned part-time custom cookie creator👩🏻‍🍳, mailed me these amazing Messy Minimalism book cover cookies. 🤩 If you’ve been a reader of my blog for a while, then you know Stacey by the lack of typos in those early posts. 🙌 She graciously edited my early articles because, well, I’m no grammar nerd 💁🏻‍♀️. Now she’s using her incredible attention to detail to make beautiful, delicious art. It’s just so fun to watch your friend find her thing. These cookies are almost too pretty eat… 😋 I said almost. Thank you friend!

A few years back I surveyed readers in an effort to find a common denominator in people who decide to become minimalists. Instead I learned the top 7 Reasons Why People Go Minimalist. For me, it was stress and anxiety. It took me 34 years to recognize the link between my clutter and my stress level. But once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it and I couldn't get rid of that stuff fast enough. Which one (or ones) did it for you? Or do you perhaps fall into the category of people who have always just had a natural bent toward owning less and living clutter free? I'd love to hear what set you on the clutter free path. For more read, The Top 7 Reasons Why People Become Minimalists (link in profile). #minimalism #lessstuffmoreadventure #experiencesoverthings #selfcare #minimalist #minimalistmom #intentionalmotherhood #sparksjoy #messyminimalism
As a messy person, I’ve found the secret to keeping a tidier home isn’t found by magically transforming into some mystical, allusive, practically perfect, Mary Poppins-ish version of myself. I tried that and it just didn’t work. Instead, the secret is owning less. I didn’t need to become better at managing stuff. I simply needed less stuff to manage. We need far less stuff than we think we need… than we’re TOLD we need. Yet we accumulate more in the name of fear, keeping up, staying trendy, doing what we’ve always done and even in the name of simplicity. Yes, even the pursuit of simplicity can cause us to accumulate unnecessarily if we aren’t paying attention. Whether you’re messy or tidy, organized or scattered, Messy Minimalism will help you create a home you love and a life that fits. Available now where books are sold. 📚🤩

For the one who couldn’t fit it all in this year…❤️ It’s been a wild couple of months around here launching Messy Minimalism, getting sick, and wrapping up class parties and Christmas spirit week for my junior higher…(didn’t even know that was a thing 🤪). We’ve had to let go of lots this year, but letting go simply gifts us the energy to savor what fits. I hope you have a very merry Christmas friend! 🎄 #intentionalliving #minimalistchristmas #lifeonpurpose #whatmattersmost #minimalismwithkids #minimalisthome #minimalistmom
