That’s literally how it went. 🤣 I learned about minimalism at a morning mom group —> called to tell my husband at noon when it was over —> and by the time he came home that evening, my closet was decluttered and there piles EVERYWHERE! 🤪🤣 After 34 years of living an overly cluttered life, I wanted something more, and it came in the form of less: ✅ Less stuff 🧸 👗 🍽️ 🖼️
✅ Less consumerism 🛍️
✅ Less busyness 🗓️ 🤪 ⏰ To read more about why and how we went minimalist 6 years ago, read When Mom Goes Minimalist. (Link in profile or head to AbundantLifeWithLess.com/mom-goes-minimalist)
Is it just me, or do new experiences fill you up? Watching this little thing wave goodbye as she opted to take the harder ⛷️ run, absolutely filled my soul. What kind of activities fill your ❤️ you to the brim?

Did you know you can become a minimalist before ever decluttering a single thing in your home? In fact, I propose you’ll have greater decluttering success if you do. 💪 There’s this idea out there that minimalism is reserved for the already decluttered, the naturally today and the always organized. As if you must be able to earn you’re minimalist membership card in order to get into the club. I deeply believe the reason I had such success staying the course as I decluttered my entire home years ago is because my mindset and identity shifted well before my home. Once you make the shift in your brain, decluttering your home is simply you, aligning your environment with your new way of thinking. 🙌 For a grace-based approach to decluttering your head, home and heart, read: Messy Minimalism. As a minimalist family, sometimes the things that matter look a lot like clutter. But with fewer toys and less ACTUAL clutter in our home, it doesn’t feel as overwhelming as it once did. I had plenty of time before dinner to 1 v 1 my son in bball while my littlest played with her “prises kasll” (princess castle🤩) and my middle child crafted her little heart out. Making space in your home and calendar for the things that matter is personally my favorite benefit of a minimalist lifestyle. ❤️ What’s yours? For a grace-based approach to living clutter free, read: Messy Minimalism. Available where books are sold or borrowed. 🤩 (Link in profile).

Clear counters. 💪 What once seemed like an unattainable goal, has become our reality. I used to house aaallll the appliances, vitamins, mail, fruit and bread on top of our kitchen counters. I considered my kitchen “tidy” once it was all neatly shoved back along the walls and the remaining surface was wiped clean of debris. 💁🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ The same thing went for every other flat surface in my home. My dresser and bathroom counters housed all the things. I didn’t realize there was a better way until I adopted a minimalist mindset. Want to know the secret to clear counters? Clutter free cabinets, cupboards and closets. Once you eliminate the clutter currently occupying your precious real estate, all of the stuff you actually do use, can find a home out of site. For an inside look at our kitchen before and after minimalism, read: 3 Principles of a Minimalist Kitchen + A Before and after Look at Mine. 🙌 Link in profile or head to, AbundantLifeWithLess.com/minimalist-kitchen

My son and husband were off on an adventure this weekend so we decided to go on one of our own. 🤣 I watched my girls (and myself) go from tripping on the bunny hill & chair lift 🤦🏻‍♀️, to taking on BLUE runs!!⛷️ We skied for hours, but coulda stayed for days. They fell, and got back up. 💪 They were scared, but did it anyway. 🤩 They were clueless, but teachable. 🤔 Watching them grow more and more confident made me feel like my heart would burst. ❤️ Here’s to making room for new experiences 🙌and the moments that matter.🤩#experiencesoverthings …Always. #adventurewithkids #minimalismwithkids #makingroomformoments #minimalistfamily #minimalist #wanderlust #wanderlustfamily #lessstuffmorelife
I had unrealistic expectations of what minimalism would do to my home when we went minimalist 6 years ago. I thought I’d end up with one of those Insta-worthy 🪴 homes. (Spits coffee out laughing 🤣). That’s just not who I am. I’m a messy person who birthed messy kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️ What minimalism DID do, was help me create a home that is actually easy to tidy! A home that no longer sucks the life out of me. A home that has become a place I love returning to after adventuring and living life to the full. Sure, it gets messy and that dining-table-turned-art-table has certainly seen better days. But I’m here for all the messes because they’re often smack dab in the middle of the moments that matter. Remember, minimalism doesn’t mean always tidy. It just means easily tidied. For more read: Messy Minimalism. Available where books are sold and borrowed. 🙌

When you first clear the walls and corners of your home, it may look weird to you. Give it time though, and I’m willing to bet it starts to grow on you. When I’ve helped people declutter in the past, they often respond to their newly empty spaces by saying. “But what should I put there now?” As if every empty space needs to contain something. My response: “Nothing.” Resist the urge to immediately fill all the empty spaces and see if in fact, white space is exactly what you’re looking for. I’m curious how you feel about empty spaces. Love them or loathe them?

It’s science. 🤓 A study out of UCLA found a link between a higher density of household objects and elevated cortisol levels. The more stuff we cram into our homes 🏠 , the more stressed 😑 out we are. The solution often masquerades as a need for organizational supplies, maybe a larger home or total home makeover. However, we don’t have a space problem, we have a stuff problem. If you want a home that serves as a sanctuary rather than a source of added stress, it’s time to declutter for good. Do you feel less stressed in a clutter free environment? 🙋🏻‍♀️ For help, read my newest article: 5 Items I Decluttered for Good and Why.
